Summer is officially here

That's right. Summer has officially started for our family. K's last day of school was last week and today was B's promotion ceremony from kindergarten. It seems as though the school year just started yesterday. It has been a great school year and he truly did have a great teacher who decided to retire after twenty-five years of serving the community.

B has learned so much this year some from his teacher and from friends.

Things he learned from the teacher:

Reading - mostly c-v-c (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, but there are others as well. Yesterday for example, when he sounded out the word organic during breakfast. Though when I told him to sound it out in front of Hubby it sounded something more like ogre-ganic.

Math - I would like to take full credit for his mad math skills, his teacher was able to teach B subtraction without having me scream and yell in frustration from explaining it to him for the umpteenth time.

Things his friends may have taught him:

Vocabulary - some of the things he now says, "Mom, you're my peeps." "Don't hate the player, hate the game." "OhNoYouDin't!"

Though my favorite thing he has been saying lately is, "MOM, how do you do it? This dinner is fantastic, you are the best cook ever!" I will attribute this last statement to his immature taste buds, but I will take the compliment.

The graduation promotion ceremony was great and we really lucked out as he was in the front row and were able to see him throughout the entire ceremony. Unfortunately during the ceremony he kept playing binoculars with the audience, shaking his leg, and as you can see in this pic, yawning.

I guess he was a little bored.

Now that summer is officially here, the countdown begins to the first day of school. Just kidding, though it is 55 days.

Party on and on and on

Wow, I think I am still getting over all of the hustle and bustle from the weekend. And it didn't contain one ounce of playing sports on our part. I did have a soccer game Friday, but I opted out. I think I had good reason too.

Look who had a party.

K's 4th

K had been talking for months about wanting to have a party for his birthday. And if you can't tell from the big furry thing at his side, he wanted to have it here. He had such a great time. And I am still in shock at how big he is getting.

So I think you would agree that I had a valid reason to miss the game Friday night.

Saturday was dedicated to my grandmother. She will be turning ninety this week and so we celebrated on Saturday.

Four G's

There are four generations in that pic. Two of my grandmothers, my parents, me and my siblings (including Hubby), and two out of three of our kids (K was so exhausted from his party the night before he slept throughout the dinner party).

This is a pic of most of my cousins and our children with my grandmother.

I got all my sisters with me.

And finally this is a pic of me and my sisters.

Sunday was K's true birthday and Father's Day so B and I took K and Hubby to the movies followed by my parents and sisters coming over for dinner. This was the first year that I cooked for Father's Day, I think I may make a tradition of it.

Then on Monday, well I'll just say that someone else celebrated a birthday.

With all the partying and eating I need to go to the gym. I haven't been in weeks and I think it's starting to show.

Friday Eye Candy

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I found my old film SLR and there was still film in it. Well to my surprise there were pictures from December of 2002.

There is our niece, nephew, and B.

Two more have been added to the brew. Another nephew and K.

You may recall the reason I was going through the old camera was because I we were looking into getting a new one. I am so excited because I did get a new one. I should say we got one. It is one of those combo gifts that is for both of us, but in all honesty we know who will be using it more often.

So without further ado, here is this weeks installment of Eye Candy Friday taken by my new camera.

Size does matter

Needle size that is. See the two socks.

The only difference between the two are one needle size. The one on the left is knit with US size 2's and 3's are on the right.

Both of the socks have advantages of their own. For instance the right sock is definitely has more stretch to it, while the left has more definition in the cabling.

At the rate that I am going, I will barely have these socks done in time to send them out to my Sockapalooza pal. Though on the upside, I have been chugging right through the pattern repeats, so maybe it won't take so long afterall.

As for softball, I will start off by saying poor Hubby. On Wednesday and Thursday of last week he played a total of seven games. That's right seven. His knees have not been the same since. We had two games of our tournament on Saturday that he could barely move for. On Sunday I had to draw the line and tell him that I wasn't going to let him play. Reluctantly he sat out and kept the book for our team.

On the upside, Hubby's team finished third in their tournament. That is the highest that team has ranked in this tournament in many many years.

Our co-ed tournament, we're out. Though we gave it a good fight. Our last two games we played short, one player for the first game and two for the second. Both games we were always within two runs, unfortunately two runs behind at the end.

And we won our first game of our Sunday league.

Not too shabby.

Nice Battery

B: Mom, what is that battery for?

Me: Huh?

B: That battery.

Me: Oh sweety, that is not a battery that is film.

B: What is film?

Me: Film is what the old camera used.

B: Oh.

I don't think he knows exactly what I meant, but this is what started that conversation.

Hubby and I have been looking into getting a new digital camera and so I was looking at our old SLR and found that there was still a role of film in the camera.

We replaced the old SLR with a point and shoot digital about five years ago and I am guessing we haven't touched the old thing since. So I am very curious as to what is on the roll. I took to roll to be developed and can't wait to see what is on it.

As for knitting, I haven't been doing so much of it lately. We started playing in a softball tournament over the weekend so for the next few weekends it will kind of be a wait and see thing. Hubby also is starting another tournament tomorrow that will last for the next three days and like our weekend tournament he may play one game tomorrow or three depending on how they do.

So if I am a little exhausted after the weekends, you know why.

Eye Candy Friday

I know it has been a while...Eye Candy Friday from me that is.

Have a great weekend!
